Meet our Caring Koala!

Picture
It was Kadence's idea. He was encouraged to create a recycled creature for art class. In about two minutes, me made a cat out of an empty milk carton, a paper towel roll and he used a sharpie to color on the eyes and the nose. To say he was un-invested is fair. He had other ideas. He wanted to use the soft felt squares to make something cuddly. So, we created a pattern on the fabric, cut it out and went through the sewing kit my mom gave me. It has a few odds and ends from my grandma and it's our family belief that those we've loved and lost somehow enchant our items from afar so they'll bring us luck. My grandpa's hoe helped me bring green plants to the earth when we lived in Freeville, a small town in Upstate New York.

Now, it was Grandma Great's turn. We used her buttons for eyes and a nose and sewed with her thread. In a few hours, we took turns stitching sometimes neatly, sometimes in haste and bunches and loose threads and extra knots. Who cares about perfection, this was going to be a caring Koala.

Our cupboards contained a very overpriced mix of wild rice (planned already for a dinner this week) so a phone call and a couple of hours later, Patty arrived with the good old fashioned $1.00 bag of rice. We filled up our buddy and Petey placed drops of his favorite essential oils in the top (lavender, copaiba, wild orange, lemon and lime). I would recommend that you use only a tiny bit of citrus in yours or stick to lavender, serenity or other soothing oils like Balance as citrus oils can be strong for snuggling with bare skin at night. We stitched up the top of his sweet little head and patched up the hole we discovered in his little koala arm pit.

The oils quickly penetrated and filled our new little snuggly with goodness. The uplifting and cleansing smells of pure citrus mixed with the calming and soothing smells of lavender and copaiba. Petey couldn't be happier.

At bedtime, we snuggled up and Petey led me in a meditation. If you missed the story, check out the article  by clicking on the link above.
Simple projects are enhanced by the oils that smell great, impact our olfactory nerve and immediately allow for stress relief as the limbic system kicks into action. Petey even researched the medicinal benefits of his oils.

I fell asleep overwhelmed by the gift of being a mother to a caring little boy and the realization that these oils have healed us enough to make an impact on his strategies for dealing with stress. You can easily make your own little buddy with minimal supplies and our amazing oils.
Love, LeeAnn
